Forest Workers Federation
October 2007 – September 2012
The goal of this project is to work with the Confederacion de Trabajadores Forestales (CTF) to develop a series of educational courses for its members on basic trade union issues. Themes include collective bargaining, occupational health and safety, leadership training, union communications and gender equality.
The project supports the development of trainers and facilitators to deliver the union's educational courses and encourage closer communication between the bargaining and occupational health and safety committees in affiliated workplaces. Overall this project seeks to strengthen the educational capacity of the union.
With this project in play, the CTF continues to play a significant role in the achievement of company wide collective agreements and is a leader in the area. Improvement in wages and working hours has had a direct impact on the lives of women, as they are still the most vulnerable workers in the workplace. Increased knowledge of their rights and being active in the union has reduced the stresses for women in the workplace and they are playing a more meaningful role within the broader social movement.
The Canadian Labour Congress works in partnership with the Confederacion de Trabajadores Forestales (CTF), and the United Steelworkers / Steelworkers Humanity Fund Wood Council.
