Youth and Unions in Palestine
October 2007 – September 2012
This project targets the youth of Palestine and is designed to recruit and organize young workers and educate them on issues of democracy, equality and gender sensitivity in the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) and in Palestinian society. The project operates in twelve areas in Palestine, eleven in West-Bank and one in Gaza Strip, and aims to train 100 young workers between the ages of 17 and 30.
As a result of this project, the youth are more aware of their rights in the workplace regarding health and safety and are more knowledgeable of the Palestinian Labour Code and international labour conventions. The project enabled the PGFTU to increase its youth representation with a 50 % ratio of female coordinators.
The Canadian Labour Congress partners with the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) on this project.
