Denis Lemelin, National President
CUPW
Dear Brother Lemelin,
As your negotiations with Canada Post enter crucial moments, I would appreciate you conveying to your members that the Canadian Labour Congress and its 3.2 million members stand in support and solidarity with you.
It is clear this round of bargaining will lay the groundwork for the future of Canada's postal service and the thousands of postal workers and their families. Vital postal services to Canada's small and rural communities are at risk with Canada Post's drive to cut 7,000 jobs through its modernization proposals. CUPW's work to increase the range of services to the public is essential to preserving and expanding postal services to communities and cities across the country.
The Corporation's demands for cuts in benefits for new hires, lower pay rates for current temporary employees, coupled with demands for an inferior short-term disability plan and sick leave, undermines the work of CUPW members to provide quality service to the public.
The Canadian Labour Congress stands in support and solidarity with CUPW in this round of difficult negotiations with Canada Post.
In solidarity,
Kenneth V. Georgetti
President
