CLC officers will celebrate Labour Day with Canadian workers on Monday, September 6. CLC President Ken Georgetti will be in TORONTO while Hassan Yussuff, CLC secretary-treasurer, will be in CHARLOTTETOWN and MONCTON. Executive vice-presidents Barbara Byers and Marie Clarke Walker will be in REGINA and BURNABY.
The emphasis will be on improving the Canada Pension Plan. The CPP is the best retirement savings vehicle available to most Canadians and for the past year the CLC has focused on getting politicians to make changes that would enhance the CPP. We are making progress -- a majority of finance ministers have now agreed that this is the best way to go, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has called for improving the CPP as well. Our pledge this Labour Day is to keep the pressure on so that our proposals become law.
