Employer charged in 4 Christmas Eve scaffolding deaths

Posted: Wednesday, 20 October 2010

The CLC commends and thanks the Attorney General of Ontario for using the changes brought to the criminal code under Bill C-45 to press criminal charges against Metron Construction Company, its owner and others associated with the company, for criminal negligence in the Christmas Eve deaths of four workers when their scaffolding collapsed from the 13th floor, and none were wearing harnesses. The employer had been warned regarding the safety of the scaffolding being used and a stop work order had been issued but was lifted a week before the tragic incident.
