In 1910, Canada’s workers’ compensation system was born, created out of historic compromise. Workers gave up the right to sue employers for injuries suffered at work in return for the right to workers’ compensation benefits, regardless of fault.
In October 2009, at its Executive Council meeting, the CLC passed a statement of principles that unionized workers of Canadian workers’ compensation boards believe are the minimum conditions for a comprehensive and fair workers’ compensation system.
