Georgetti welcomes delegates to ITUC congress

Posted: Wednesday, 23 June 2010

Ken Georgetti, president of the Canadian Labour Congress, welcomed 1500 delegates to the Second World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) on Monday, June 21 in Vancouver. Georgetti told delegates that the Congress is occurring at a critical time for the international labour movement – a time of global economic crisis that has seen 34 million lose their jobs since 2008.

Georgetti said that workers “must raise our voices and show our politicians the faces of those who have paid the personal price for the greed of the financial establishment ...and it is no time for governments to abandon workers. We face a battle now that will determine the future of the world for decades to come. And I am convinced we can and will win.”
