Who Should Attend?

This is an activist conference, for workers who recognize and are determined to change what Conservative policies mean for aboriginal and racialized communities, for LGBT communities, for people living with disabilities and for women.  This event is also for our allies who understand what the Conservative agenda has in store for communities who don't share their vision.  This will be an important moment for those who want to help build a strong, diverse and inclusive labour movement and it's a chance to act together – politically and strategically.

This is about taking back our future as a diverse movement and challenging the Conservative agenda – in our workplaces, in our communities and at the ballot box.

Ready to Rise UP for Your Rights?

Yes, we are taking this fight right to the government's door step. There's been a dangerous agenda at work in Ottawa, for nearly four years.  The Conservative government has been steadily changing laws--changing the rules, dismantling Canada’s democratic traditions. Their hidden agenda is not done – the list is growing.

On the side of the fallen are:

  • Court Challenges Program - funding discontinued affecting women, persons with disabilities and other equality seeking groups seeking legal recourse for systemic discrimination
  • Canadian Human Rights Commission – office closures in cities with high number of registered complaints and where racialized communities numbers are high
  • Status of Women – funding slashed, mandate eroded and women’s organizations closed
  • First Nations University – funding disrupted
  • International development programs – devastated, aid organizations silenced
  • Immigration and Refugee Act – changes punish migrant workers, refugees and newcomers
  • Citizenship Handbooks – references to LGBT equality erased, rewriting our history to mask the incarceration of Japanese Canadians and deportation of labour radicals
  • UN Human Rights Periodic Review - Canada scores highest number of criticisms in years
  • Declaration of Indigenous Rights & Protections – dismissed and denied
